Thanks for sharing this story Dan. It's a good one to show that one person, with passion and persistence can start a small business and have a noticabe impact in a short amount of time. Sounds like "I can't" isn't in Petra's vocabulary.

Profile Information

What is a socially responsible organization?
A socially responsible organization is one that considers the impact of strategy and decisions through a lense that has people, plant and profits as the three elements. Socially responsible organizations are forward looking in their thinking about societal benefit and stakeholder expectations.
About me
I have had extensive leadership experience in leading change and aligning human capital strategies to achieve higher organizational capacity. I have served as President & CEO in the public and not-for-profit sectors and had senior executive roles in the private sector. I was the President &CEO of the National Quality Institute which is Canada’s voice for organizational excellence and healthy workplaces.

I am now working as a management consultant, utilizing the Appreciative Inquiry methodology to stimulate positive strengths-based change to achieve employee alignment on strategies for a better future. I am currently in the Positive Leadership and Societal Benefit program at Case Western Reserve University. Part of the requirement for this program is to interview business leaders who have integrated sustainable development as a key element of their business strategy and business model and to chronicle the societal benefit that comes as a result. My specific areas of expertise include organizational facilitation that builds strategic organizational capacity, developing practical tools for organizational alignment, team development and leading assessment reviews for business excellence systems.

As part of the requirements for the program, participants had to interview business leaders who have integrated the concept of “doing well by doing good” into a successful business model.

I did interviews with five business leaders. Here is an excerpt from the interview that I did with the founder of an artisan cheese company. The Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Company, Canada’… Continue

Hi Dan, and welcome to TheSRO*. How did you find the site? Thank you for sharing your involvement with sustainable development and your work history. We've got a good number of professors as members of the site, and I'm wondering if there might be interest in creating a "subgroup" of academic types to discuss issues. Your thoughts?
