What is a socially responsible organization?
All organizations have an impact on their internal world as well as the external world. In brief, the socially responsible organization would have a positive impact both internally and externally.

So what kinds of areas am I referring to when I say internal and external impact? The main areas of impact the people developing the new ISO26000 international standard of organizational social responsibility are:

• Organizational governance
• Human rights
• Labor practices
• Fair operating practices
• Consumer issues
• The environment
• Contribution to community and society

As you can see, I started out with the issues that would impact an organization internally and ended with the ones that have an effect on the world as a whole.

One of the best ways an organization could become more socially responsible is to incorporate quality tools in their systems, processes, and practices. Quality tools pave the way for continuous improvement in all aspects of an organization’s impact, both within and outside.
About me
Currently working as a Marketing Assistant at ASQ, I have been something of a "Jaqueline of all trades" having been a buyer, exectuive secretary, done customer service, done training and coaching, and more. I have worked at many companies and have seen varying degrees of commitment to social responsibility, their efforts, and the amount of room there is for further improvement.
I am a graduate of UW-Madison.
