An organization that recognizes it's diverse stakeholders (including: suppliers, employees, stockholders, customers and the community surrounding their facilities) and behaves in a way that ideally improves the situations of all stakeholders (and more practically does not harm the situations of any stakeholders).

Key Concepts From ISO 26000

There are seven core areas described in ISO 26000.
- Organizational Governance
- Human Rights
- Labor Practices
- Environment
- Fair Operation Practices
- Consumer Issues
- Community Involvement and Development

In addition there is the foundational Ethic of social responsibility that underlies each of the areas. Or maybe better said the Ethic is evident in how social responsibility emerges withing the 7 core areas.

Draft ISO 26000 Available for review

While the ISO guideline will not be formally distributed until at the earliest 2010 the draft is available 26000 Draft

The thrust of the guideline will not likely change much so I recommend we begin to talk about Social Responsility based on concepts found in the 26000 document.
